Sound familiar?
When orthotics can help
Flat feet or high arches
Arches that collapse or don't flex can change how your knees, hips and lower back load with every step.
Heel and arch pain
Plantar fascia and heel pain often ease when the foot is supported properly through the day.
Back pain that returns
If your back pain keeps coming back, uneven foot mechanics are one of the things Dr. Lichy checks.
Long days on your feet
Nurses, retail, restaurant and hospital staff who stand for hours often feel the difference quickly.
Runners and walkers
A supportive insert can help with shin, knee and hip aches that show up as mileage climbs.
Uneven shoe wear
Soles that wear down on one side are a clue that your feet are not landing evenly.
How it works
How custom orthotics work here
1. A real exam first
Dr. Lichy looks at how you stand, walk and wear your shoes, and checks your feet, knees, hips and lower back. Orthotics are only recommended when they make sense for you.
2. A two-minute mold
You press your feet into a foam mold in the office. It takes under two minutes and nothing is messy.
3. Made in a lab, back in about two weeks
The mold goes to an orthotics lab that makes a pair to your exact foot shape. They usually arrive in about two weeks and we call you to pick them up.
4. Fitting and follow-up
Dr. Lichy checks the fit in your shoes and tells you how to break them in. Adjustments to the inserts can be made if needed.
Results vary from person to person. Dr. Lichy will tell you honestly what he expects for your situation and when to see a medical specialist instead.

Custom orthotics FAQ
How are custom orthotics different from store inserts?
Store inserts are one shape for everyone. Custom orthotics are made from a mold of your own feet, so the support sits exactly where your arch and heel need it.
How much do they cost?
It depends on your insurance. We check your benefits first and tell you the exact cost before anything is ordered, so there are no surprises. Call 212-534-5656 or text 646-829-6801 to ask.
Does insurance cover orthotics?
Some plans cover custom orthotics as durable medical equipment and some don't. Bring your insurance card and we'll check for you. Call 212-534-5656 or text 646-829-6801 to ask ahead of time.
How long do they last?
Most pairs last one to three years depending on how much you use them and your weight and activity. Dr. Lichy checks them at your visits.
Can I move them between shoes?
Yes. Most patients move one pair between everyday shoes. Very narrow dress shoes or cleats may need a slimmer pair.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome and same-day visits are often available. We're open Monday to Thursday until 7 pm. You can also book online or text us to pick a time.
